For the Environment

If you want to reduce your ecological footprint, going veg is the way to go. Meat and dairy production is responsible for staggering land degradation, pollution, loss of biodiversity, and global warming. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization stated in a 2006 report, "The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.” The study found that livestock production is globally responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all the cars, trains, and airplanes in the world combined.  “In terms of immediacy of action and the feasibility of bringing about reductions in a short period of time," says Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, “vegetarianism is the most attractive opportunity.” University of Chicago Researchers found that the average American can cut carbon emissions more by going vegetarian diet than by driving a Prius.
