For your Health

Low in cholesterol and saturated fat and teeming with fiber and antioxidants, well-balanced vegetarian and vegan diets offer a number of health benefits. Compared to omnivores, vegans and vegetarians suffer lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, prostate and colon cancer, gastro intestinal disorders and kidney disease. The American Dietetic Association, the world's largest organization of nutrition professionals, stated in its 2009 position paper on vegetarianism "Appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life-cycle including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence and for athletes."
